Personal Statement
I chose to focus my research during fellowship on pediatric hepatitis C testing. Given my prior studies during graduate school in the field of microbiology and immunology, I have always been interested in infectious disease. Though congenital hepatitis C infection is much more rare than other infections, it has the potential to lead to a devastating result in children and I felt that studying what may help improve pediatric testing could have a great impact in this population. As we see many opiate-exposed neonates in the NICU, I feel that this provides us a great opportunity to get these infants linked into care sooner rather than later.
