Personal Statement
Since 2007, I have served as Chief Medical Officer of the UNM Cancer Center. In this role, I am responsible for the entire clinical operation, including: all aspects of patient safety and care; billing and scheduling; clinical working group oversight; multidisciplinary team management and oversight; and quality measurement. As Chief Medical Officer, I make several reports annually to the UNM Hospital, and to many University and governmental entities. Under my leadership, the UNM Cancer Center Clinic has achieved accreditation from The Joint Commission; American College of Surgeons™ Commission on Cancer Accreditation with Commendation; American College of Radiology accreditation; and American Society of Clinical Oncology Quality Oncology Practice Initiative accreditation. I am also a practicing oncologist and continue to see patients regularly in the clinic. I mentor and teach fellows, residents and interns. And I serve on several national cancer committees, including the Clinical Practice Committee of ASCO.
