Biography
Jongwon Lee, PhD, RN, associate professor at The University of New Mexico College of Nursing, focuses her research on women's health, the development and psychometric evaluations of instruments, and the role of a culture of honor on preventive health behaviors. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate level classes.
Dr. Lee attended the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Nursing, where she earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing and Master of Nursing Science degrees, focusing on maternal and women's health. She earned her Registered Nurse-to-Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Yonsei University and her Diploma in Nursing from the National Medical Center College of Nursing in Seoul, South Korea.
Personal Statement
Being a nurse researcher and educator means much more than having an opportunity to educate, train, and nurture the next generation of nurses in New Mexico (NM). It provides me a unique sense of identify and purpose, and a way of living consistent with my values and goals.

Courses Taught
Dr. Lee taught classes from the undergraduate to graduate level and from clinical practicum to fully online-based didactic courses. The course she has recently taught include the N620-Health Care Statistics I, N621-Health Care Statistics II, N597-Applied Examination, N612-Health Outcomes Research, and N224-Application of Growth and Development to Health Care.
Research and Scholarship
Dr. Leeâs program of research has centered on two main areas. First, her research focuses on racial/ethnic minority womenâs health, especially Asian American womenâs health and prevention seeking behaviors. She is also interested in exploring how âculture of honorâ ideology is related to stigma and affects attitudes and preventive health behaviors such as HPV vaccine and STI screenings. Second, her research also focuses on the development and psychometric evaluation of instruments.
