Biography

Dr. Machin received a BS in Physical Education from William Paterson University of New Jersey in 2007 and then worked for Kessler Foundation Research Center before going to graduate school at The University of Texas at Austin, where he received an MS (2012) and PhD (2014) in Exercise Physiology. He completed a Postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Utah and Salt Lake City VA Medical Center where he was awarded a K99/R00 before joining the department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology at Florida State University as an Assistant Professor (2020). In 2024, Dr. Machin joined the department of Cell Biology and Physiology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine where he is a part of the Vascular Physiology Group within the Cell Biology and Physiology department.

Personal Statement

My research expertise is in the field of cardiovascular physiology and vascular biology. There are a number of age- and lifestyle-related changes in the structural and functional properties of arteries that result in impaired vascular function, elevated blood pressure, and contribute to cardiovascular disease risk. The goals of my laboratory are to investigate and elucidate the physiological, cellular, and molecular mechanisms responsible for endothelial dysfunction in advanced age and disease, as well as to identify novel therapeutics that can ameliorate age- and disease-related vascular dysfunction..
