Personal Statement

My career path has been somewhat of a biased random walk rather than a straight line. Most of my academic and career focus throughout my life was towards being a career researcher. However, I made the decision to make a lateral move to education as a public school teacher for Albuquerque Public Schools, shortly after my first post-doctoral fellowship. I enjoy many of the intellectual pursuits in wet-bench research, but teaching at both the high school and university level has really ignited my passion. I now teach upper-division Biochemistry at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
