Personal Statement

I am an associate professor of medicine and proud to hold the position of Vice-Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Department of Medicine. I am a Native New Mexican who was fortunate to walk the halls as a medical student, resident, and fellow leaving to complete my training at Stanford University Medical Center as a post-doctorate in pulmonary vascular disease. I returned to UNM as faculty in 2012 to establish New Mexico’s only Pulmonary Hypertension Comprehensive Care Center where I am the medical director of a robust clinical practice and participate in numerous clinical trials in pulmonary hypertension. My deep pride in New Mexico and passion to continue to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion drives me to give back to UNM and the New Mexico community by representing them in my best capacity. I am also an elected member of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association's Scientific Leadership Committee and the chair of the education committee for the PHA. I am fortunate to currently lead the clinical trial unit for the dept of internal medicine as a co-medical director.
