Biography

Amie Merhege, MSN, RN, CPNP, is a lecturer I at The University of New Mexico (UNM) College of Nursing. She received her Master of Science in Nursing-Pediatric Nurse Practitioner concentration, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UNM and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Texas at Austin. Merhege completed the Pediatric Pulmonary Center nurse practitioner leadership program during graduate school and studied transition concerns of adolescents and their families with cystic fibrosis. She currently teaches pediatrics in the undergraduate and RN to BSN programs. Merhege practiced pediatric primary and acute care in Albuquerque at After Hours Pediatrics for 6 years, and currently practices at University of New Mexico Children's Hospital on the Carrie Tingley in-patient pediatric rehabilitation team. Her patient population consists of children with brain injuries, strokes, spinal cord injuries, traumatic injuries, deconditioning, and other diagnoses requiring intensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy to optimize development and function. She serves on the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board Exam Committee for the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Primary Care certification.
