Biography

Dr. Andres Mindiola Romero, MD, grew up in Maracaibo, Venezuela, where he completed his medical training. This included getting his MD degree from the University of Zulia. He completed a combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at Dartmouth Health in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and completed a Hematopathology and Transfusion Medicine Fellowships at UNM in 2024.

He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor - UNM Department of Pathology specializing in Transfusion/Apheresis Medicine, Coagulation Testing and Cellular Therapies and has academic interests in quality improvement, histocompatibility testing, and medical education.

Personal Statement

As a pathologist and specialist in hemato-diagnosis and transfusion medicine, I have developed skills over the years not only in the clinical setting but also in the laboratory administration setting and multisystem approach executions. I have been trained in Lean Six Sigma, currently a yellowbelt and greenbelt, showing my passion for process quality improvement, especially applied to clinical laboratories.
My experience in multiple health systems has given me a broader understanding of different work environments. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with and learn from renowned experts in the field.
In my current job as an assistant professor, I also teach medical students, residents, and postgraduate fellows, and it has been fulfilling to see them develop their skills.
