Biography
Monique Montes de Oca is a Senior Patient Support Therapist and licensed clinical social worker at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center. Monique graduated with her bachelor of arts from The University of Washington in 2011 and masters of social work with a clinical concentration in mental health and military social work. Monique has extensive experience working with geriatrics, addiction, severe mental illness, hospice and housing insecurity. Monique specializes in trauma recovery, harm reduction, person centered and strengths based approaches. Some modalities that she uses in her work often include: motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavioral therapy and solution focused therapy. Monique is originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico and is passionate about helping underserved populations and advocating for structural improvements to decrease barriers to cancer patients and their families.
Personal Statement
I am a proud mentor and clinical supervisor to masters level social work interns who are the future of our profession. I enjoy providing a rich learning environment to clinical interns who are just getting their feet wet in the area of oncology social work.
