Biography
Although a native New Mexican, Dr. Olson attended undergraduate and medical school at the University of Arizona (BS 1991, MD 1995). Following this, he did residency training in Surgery and Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at St. Louis University from 1995 to 2000. He then did a fellowship in Head & Neck Surgery and Microvascular Reconstruction at Vanderbilt University, which he completed in 2001. Dr. Olson then answered the clarion call from New Mexico and joined the faculty in the Department of Surgery in 2001.
Personal Statement
As a native New Mexican, I value the opportunity to provide world-class care through the UNM Hospital and Cancer Center. I believe that excellent care starts with listening to my patients and working as a team with other practitioners.
I have particular interest and expertise in thyroid and parathyroid disorders. Additionally I am a member of UNM's Skull Base Surgery Team and and adjunct faculty member in the Department of Neurosurgery. In this role I treat diseases of the anterior skull base and paranasal sinuses. During my 20 years at UNM, I have pioneered new techniques and brought resources to the people of New Mexico to treat these problems. I look forward to providing my services as part of a multidisciplinary team, focused on you.
