Biography
Dr. Ortiz Orendain is originally from Guadalajara, Mexico. He is a community psychiatrist. He completed his medical school at the university of Guadalajara. He then completed his psychiatry residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and followed by a public psychiatry fellowship at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, CT. He is now a board-certified psychiatrist and an assistant professor at UNM.
Personal Statement
As a community psychiatrist, I aim to help patients recover in their private and community space - outside of institutions. My main interest revolves around schizophrenia and other serious mental illness. I am specifically interested in strategies to prevent schizophrenia and the development and delivery of mental health services for people undergoing a first episode of psychosis.
