Personal Statement

I grew up in El Paso, Texas, and I decided to relocate back to the Southwest after completing medical school in New York. My many fond memories of camping trips to New Mexico and experiences of the beauty of the "Land of Enchantment" was my driving force to attend and complete my residency and fellowship training at the University of New Mexico Health Science Center. I met my wife during our residency training, and now we have three grown children; I am happy to say that Albuquerque has been my home since 1992. When not working, I enjoy my time in the outdoors: fishing, cycling, kayaking and hiking.

I have been a practicing board certified endocrinologist since 1997, and I was an attending physician at UNM for seven years. I then worked as a staff endocrinologist at Presbyterian Medical Group for sixteen years. I am returning back to UNMHSC with a wealth of experience in thyroid and parathyroid disease, and I am excited about my position as the lead endocrinologist in the multi-disciplinary Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery Program at the UNM Cancer Center. We look forward to developing the first Thyroid/Parathyroid Center of Excellence to serve the people of New Mexico and the Southwest.
