Biography
Dr Rana practices the entire spectrum of vascular surgery, however, complex aortic surgery is Dr Rana’s clinical passion and area of personal clinical interest. He focuses on clinical evaluation, endovascular and open surgical treatment of aortic pathology like aneurysms, dissections and stenosis involving any aortic segment. Dr Rana came back to Albuquerque after his vascular surgery training at Mayo Clinic and started the first complex endovascular aortic and open thoracoabdominal aortic repair in the region. In 2013 he became the first surgeon to perform totally endovascular repair of thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm in the region and over the years has performed over 100 such reconstructions using fenestrated and branched aortic stent-grafts. Other particular areas of Dr Rana’s expertise include cerebrovascular disease, visceral arterial disease, oncological resections involving major blood vessels, vena cava reconstructions and anterior/lateral spine exposures. Dr. Rana has authored many journal articles, abstracts and book chapters on various topics related to vascular surgery, including aortic arch reconstructions, thoracoabdominal aortic and iliac aneurysms, peripheral vascular diseases, and carotid body tumors etc. He is the president-elect of Rocky Mountain Vascular Surgical Society and is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, and Western Vascular Society. Dr Rana also chairs and organizes the annual New Mexico Vascular Surgery Symposium. In his free time Dr Rana enjoys playing squash and spending time in the outdoors hiking, riding bikes and skiing with his wife Dr Sabeen Yaqub and their three children
