Biography
Eric T. Riebsomer, DNP, RN, FANAI a third generation New Mexican, is a clinician educator- assistant professor at The University of New Mexico. His experience over the past 25 years has spanned across both environmental and nursing fields. Dr. Riebsomer's environmental career started at a small Airforce base in north central Oklahoma. Shortly after, he moved back to his home state of New Mexico and began working at Los Alamos National Laboratory and for 16 years spent much of his time managing and being a part of many diverse types of regulatory, environmental, and aerospace projects. After 16 years in the environmental field, He decided to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Since working in nursing, Dr. Riebsomer has experienced many different settings, including bedside nursing, administration, education, and nursing advocacy.
Personal Statement
Dr. Riebsomer's scholarship and advocacy focuses on the intersection between climate health and public health, by exploring and educating people on climate breakdown, and the impacts of climate on the health of individuals. This work strives to tie together different areas including healthy working environments, community resiliency, and health equity. His hope and goal are to have a positive impact on not only on the individual students, but all the people throughout the various levels of health care. To try and achieve this, He leads a special interest group for the New Mexico Nurses Association, and he also works with the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, the New Mexico Health Professionals for Climate Action, and the American Nurses Association. Through these avenues, He is dedicated to educating nurses, communities, and legislators about the importance of the connection between climate breakdown and public health. As a lifelong New Mexican, Dr. Riebsomer wants to create stronger, more resilient communities in this State, along with the amazing nurses that work and live in so many different areas of New Mexico.
