Personal Statement

I am passionate about the work I do in pediatrics and with children and families with issues of substance abuse and other at-risk factors, which began when I served as the primary therapist for the FOCUS Program, an early intervention program for children with prenatal substance exposure and their families. This position ignited my interest in working with children and adolescents with adverse childhood experiences.

I currently provide consultation services for the Developmental Care Program at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, following children after discharge from the neonatal intensive care unit. Since taking a faculty position with the Occupational Therapy Graduate Program, I have developed school-wide self-regulation and social skill programs for local charter schools. In addition, I collaborated with two treatment foster care agencies providing parent-child sensory-based attachment groups, summer camps, in home, and school consultations.
