Biography
Dr Schmidt received a B.S. degree in Biochemistry in 1995 from Louisiana State University in 1995. He earned his MD at Louisiana State University HSC in New Orleans in 1999. He completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine from 1999-2002 here at the University of New Mexico. He served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine here from 2002-2003. He then completed his fellowship in Nephrology at the University of New Mexico.
Dr Schmidt then went on to join the faculty at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson, MS from 2005 to 2009 at the rank of Assistant Professor. From there he went on to practice clinical Nephrology in Southwest Colorado from 2009-2020. Then in September 2020, he rejoined the University of New Mexico as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Clinical Nephrologist
Personal Statement
Having practiced Clinical Nephrology in rural communities for over 10 years. I am excited to return to an academic environment where I hope to share my experience and expertise with students and physicians in training. I continue to enjoy caring for patients with Nephrologic issues in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I am interested in working towards systems that improve health care disparities including those patients adversely affected by their geographic location.
