Biography
I received both my bachelor's degree (BS) in Biology, with double minor in Spanish and Chemistry, and my medical doctorate (MD) from the University of New Mexico. I then trained as a general pediatrician at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, followed by a fellowship in pediatric rheumatology from Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. I then briefly practiced in the Midwest before returning to my home state of New Mexico in 2025.
Personal Statement
As a born and raised New Mexican who long knew I wanted to care for the children of New Mexico, it was always a goal of mine to receive my training outside of the state so that I could bring back the most up-to-date care practices. My role as a pediatric rheumatologist means that I care for children with conditions where their immune system attacks their bodies. I am privileged to be the only current physician in the state permanently practicing pediatric rheumatology. My patient approach is founded in patient-centered and family-centered care, first taught to me during medical school, and finely honed during my generalist and specialist training. I aim to provide thoughtful, equitable care for all of my patients, recognizing that many in our state have limited access to resources or healthcare. My other passion lies in medical education and health professions education based research. Much of my work has included qualitative and/or mixed-methodological research around a variety of topics. With a Master's Degree in Medical Education, I hope to bring my skills and experiences to the university in order to help raise the careers of upcoming scholars, as well as continue my work towards a more advanced degree.
