Biography

Pamela Sedillo, MPA is Director of Academic Success and Lecturer at the College of Population Health (COPH) within the University of New Mexico (UNM). She earned a bachelor of science degree in nutrition and dietetics, a graduate professional certificate in maternal child health and a graduate degree in public administration. She is a co-instructor for Introduction to MCH Public Health. Ms. Sedillo works with undergraduate and graduate students, staff, faculty, alumni, and interdisciplinary colleagues throughout the UNM system to improve the educational and research opportunities that enhance the student experience.

She has over 30 years of management experience in the public and private sectors. Her interests are maternal child health and education, assisting students with identifying and achieving their academic and professional goals while helping them navigate through the system.

Bernalillo County ABC Community Schools

Funding: Bernalillo County

Role: Project  Manager

Formalize a collaborative student field experience program between Bernalillo County ABC Community Schools and the College of Population Health field experience program. Trainees will have the opportunity to conduct analysis and evaluate the efficacy of implementation of ABC Netweok Schools through examination of evidence, coding and scaling using the ABC Code Book process.

Advancing Anti-Racism in a Maternal Child Health Curriculum

Funding: Association for Prevention, Teaching and Research

Role: Principal Investigator

The funding from APTR will assist us in adapting our current maternal child health curriculum to include the impacts of structural racism in the United States to both programs. The project objectives are to introduce students to the concepts of racism and antiracism, to have them distinguish between racism and anti-racism, and to define and discuss structural racism and how it is related to maternal child health through a clinical and public health lens. We will use the funding to integrate the resources available from APTR on racism to enhance lectures, readings, discussions, and assignments.

DOH Maternal Child Health Epidemiology Practicum Project

Funding: New Mexico Department of Health

Duration: 10/10/2019 – 6/30/2021

Formalize a collaborative student field experience program between the NM Department of Health and the College of Population Health field experience program. Training is focused on the social determinants of maternal and child health equity. Trainees will have the opportunity to conduct analysis on NM state MCH epidemiology data sets that will inform health systems, services and policy design and interventions.

New Mexico Maternal Child Health Public Health Training Institute

Funding: Health Resources and Services Administration MCH Bureau

Duration: 6/1/2014 – 5/31/2021

Role: Program Manager

The training institute has enrolled MCH professionals state-wide in a program to complete a graduate-level certificate in public health.  Responsibilities include developing coursework and course instruction. As evaluation coordinator: develop evaluation questionnaires; conduct the program evaluation with the questionnaires and in-person interviews. Responsibilities also include analyzing data and preparing reports, and participating in a broad range of tasks associated with the MCH Public Health Training Institute.

Public Health Traineeships in Epidemiology

Funding: Health Resources and Services Administration

Duration: 9/1/2014 – 8/31/2016

Role: Project Manager

Students with an epidemiology concentration in the UNM Master of Public Health Program are awarded stipends for completing an epidemiological field project. Responsibilities include: serving as a liaison between the students and the training sites that include many different public health agencies and partners; developing forms and databases to manage and evaluate the traineeships; analyzing data and preparing progress and annual reports.
