Biography
Helene Silverblatt MD is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Family and Community Medicine at UNMSOM. She is the co-developer of the nationally award winning UNM rural psychiatry residency program. She is part of the UNM TEASC team (Transdisciplinary Evaluation and Support Clinic) for adults with developmental disabilities. She is the PI and program director of the HRSA funded New Mexico Area Health Education Centers, and co-clinic director of the Primary Care AHEC TeleECHO clinic. She serves as executive director of the Office for Community Faculty at the UNMSOM. Dr. Silverblatt is the core lead for community faculty in the HRSA funded UNM Center of Excellence for Diversity.
In these roles she is able to connect her clinical and educational experience to help create an integrated primary care and behavioral health workforce and contribute to workforce training, development and retention in New Mexico. In September, 2023 she was awarded the Victor I. Howery Memorial Award for significant contributions to the field of rural mental health by the National Association for Rural Mental Health.
