Personal Statement
My philosophy of teaching is based on premise that the community is a wonderful classroom and we should use it to its full potential. It is not possible or even desirable to provide all a students education within the confines of the university. This is especially true if we are expecting them to practice out in these communities. From a systems-based point of view, I believe this path holds the most promise for providing care and addressing the medical needs of the state of New Mexico. I have previously worked with the Preceptorship office, to expand our network of preceptors, and with the combined BA/MD program to educate students in basic public health principles and provide them with an opportunity to use these skills in a variety of rural setting throughout New Mexico. I continue this with the Family Medicine Clerkship program and Phase II clerkships
