Biography

Dr. Souchon-Sanchez receive a an M.D degree from the Central University of Venezuela in 2004. She continued her education in General Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and finished her residency at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine in 2014. Followed by a fellowship in Critical Care Surgery in 2015 and Acute Care Surgery in 2016 at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine.

Personal Statement

Dr. Souchon-Sanchez has dedicated her career to the management and treatment of Trauma and Acute Care patients. She has been working for the last 2 years as Trauma Medical Director, on the development of a Level 3 Trauma Center for the University of New Mexico located at Sandoval Regional Medical Center. She has also participated on multiple committees at SRMC and has been leading the Trauma Committee Meeting and Performance Improvement Meetings for the Trauma Program.
Dr. Souchon-Sanchez also has a special interest on medical education, reason why she completed the 2 year Medical Education Scholars Program offered by UNM in order to continue to help develop medical curriculums within our department. She has been the medical student clerkship director for the last 2 years, during which time the SRMC rotation has become one of the most esteemed and appreciated by the students, obtaining some of the highest scores for the rotation. She also continues to teach outside of the clinical environment as an ATLS and ASSET instructor.

Dr. Souchon-Sanchez has particular expertise in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and has worked on the development of the Trauma Program at SRMC for the last 2 years.

Achievements & Awards

Dr. Souchon-Sanchez is double board certified in General Surgery and Critical Care from the American Board of Surgery. She also is certified in Acute Care Surgery by the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST).
She has been awarded teaching awards throughout her residency in multiple occasions and she has been awarded Excellence in Teaching at UNM yearly since 2017.
