Biography
Johanna K. Stiesmeyer, DNP, MS, RN, NPD-BC, is an assistant professor and clinician educator at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing. With a career spanning critical care cardiac nursing, clinical education, and leadership as a system-wide Director of Clinical Education, Dr. Stiesmeyer has developed and led cutting-edge programs that bridge clinical practice with education.
In 2017, she earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree with a focus on executive organizational leadership. Her scholarly project established the foundation for nationally certified nurse residency and fellowship programs in New Mexico, improving clinical competency and retention of newly licensed nurses.
Dr. Stiesmeyer secured and managed a HRSA grant to launch New Mexico's first Rural Nurse Practitioner/Nurse Midwife Residency Program. This initiative addressed the state's urgent need for advanced practice registered nurses in rural and underserved areas.
Her scholarly contributions include national presentations and peer-reviewed publications on topics such as nursing residencies, pediatric asthma management, critical care cardiac nursing, rural APRN residency programs, and business strategies which include return on investment for clinical programs.
Dr. Stiesmeyer has integrated cutting-edge technologies which include simulation-based learning and immersive experiences using augmented and virtual reality. Her innovative approaches enhance clinical training and improving patient care outcomes.
