Biography

Matthew Sullivan was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He attended Northwestern University and received an undergraduate degree in Paleobiology & Earth History. He worked briefly as a fossil preparator and replica painter with the Field Museum in Chicago before earning his medical degree at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine where he graduated summa cum laude. Matt started residency training in just Emergency Medicine at Stanford University, though quickly learned that his career would be more fulfilling should he balance his time in the ED with more time in the ORs. Matt transferred to Johns Hopkins University’s combined program in Emergency Medicine and Anesthesiology upon completion of his intern year and recently graduated in December 2024 after serving as Chief Resident for the combined program. He is thrilled to be on faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the University of New Mexico, where he can enjoy productive and rewarding clinical days at the Hospital with an amazing group of clinicians, balanced with remote camping, beautiful mountain biking, aggressive skiing, and more red & green chiles than he ever thought possible.
