Other Scholarly Activities:

9/2021- Current APGO/CREOG Surgical Education Scholar, 2021-2023 class member. Throughmy participation as an SES Scholar, I am creating and implementing a Surgical Passport for OB/Gyn residents at UNM that will increase surgical practice in simulation and real surgical cases with the goal of increasing resident surgical experience and confidence. I plan to assess faculty and resident perceptions about surgical readiness and entrustment through surveys prior to and after implementation of the Surgical Passport requirements.

9/2017 - Current I designed and implemented the very first Gynecology Surgical Simulation curriculum for OB-GYN residents at UNM. Sessions occur every two months during OB-GYN resident school. I developed a list of tasks and a number of simulations including laparoscopic/vaginal/abdominal hysterectomy, ovarian cystectomy and laparoscopic suturing and many more. For each task, I have developed objectives for learners performing the tasks. My next goal is to develop assessment tools that can be utilized for progression to live surgical tasks.

8/2018 - Current I developed an orientation for PGY 4 and PGY 3 OB-GYN residents to the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery Certification requirements (FLS). FLS certification is a new ABOG requirement of all OB-GYN residents in order to register for written board examination that is effective May 2020. The orientation involved introduction to the written and performance testing requirements as well as regular check-ins with residents to ensure practice and mastery of the required laparoscopic tasks. All residents who took the FLS examination 4/2019 became certified; I helped the residents accomplish this a year before it was required.

2016-2018 Medical Educator Scholars Programs. University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Office of Medical Educator Development. As an MES scholar, I utilized the skills I acquired to begin the development of the first Gynecology Surgical Simulation curriculum for OB-GYN residents at UNM. I also utilized this program to present the preliminary findings of my research study
