Personal Statement

Before joining UNM, I was trained to become a pharmacist/researcher who is specialized in epilepsy. Epilepsy is a common neurological disease, and anti-seizure medications play a significant role in controlling seizures. As such, as a pharmacist and researcher, I strongly believe that effective and safe use of anti-seizure medications is critical to protect patients from seizures and their complications. I worked with epileptologists at UNM Neurology Clinics and provided medication management service for patients with epilepsy until summer 2019.
Since early in my career at the University of New Mexico, I have been interested in pain management and in the prevention of opioid overdoses. Misuse of opioids and opioid overdose death is a serious public issue in the United States as well as in New Mexico, and safe and appropriate use of pain medications are essential to prevent opioid overdose death. At UNM Pain Center and at First Choice Community Healthcare Clinic, I serve as a pharmacist clinician and provide medication management services for patients with chronic pain.

I teach neurological diseases at UNM College of Pharmacy. Teaching is my passion, and it gives me great satisfaction to pass on my knowledge and experience to future pharmacists.
