Personal Statement
I am originally from Connecticut, went to school in Massachusetts, and fell in love with New Mexico after a long dark winter in the Northeast. I have practiced Anesthesiology outside of Boston as well as on the island of Saipan.
I have a strong interest in Resident and Medical Student Education, and am fittingly the Program Director. I am heavily involved in Simulation where I conduct Crisis Management Scenarios for residents, Maintenance of Certification of Anesthesia workshops for practicing anesthesiologists, and most recently, in situ ACLS scenarios for interprofessional teams in the Operating Rooms. I also enjoy the formative simulation experience we created for the advanced residents in which they partake in a timed and scored seven station Mock OSCE experience, complete with Standardized Patients and a full debrief. I have developed an interest in POCUS and have joined the team of faculty offering workshops to our faculty as well as at national meetings.
Both Simulation and POCUS are domains that combine teamwork, hand skills, and most importantly, critical thinking. Our profession is centered around anticipating and treating physiologic and pathologic changes associated with surgery and anesthesia. What better way to hone those skills but in simulation? What better way to extend our hypothesis creation and testing, but with point of care ultrasound?
