Biography
I received a B.S. degree in Library and Information Science (2001) from Fu Jen Catholic University and an M.S. degree in Library and Information Science (2003) from National Chung Hsing University, both in Taiwan. I began my career as a librarian in 2003, serving in various roles including Team Member at the Medical Library of National Cheng Kung University, Executive Officer at the National Taichung University of Education, and Team Leader at the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology. In 2014, I took a hiatus from my professional career to focus on family responsibilities, and in 2015, I relocated from Taiwan to the United States.
Throughout my career, I have demonstrated expertise in library management, user services, and electronic resource management. I have conducted numerous educational sessions, information searches, and consultations, supporting healthcare professionals, researchers, and students in their information needs. I have also contributed to the field through publications and conference presentations on topics such as health literacy, evidence-based medicine databases, and library information services.
In 2024, I began serving at the Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (HSLIC) at the University of New Mexico, further expanding my experience in academic health sciences librarianship. I enrolled in an ALA-accredited Master's in Library and Information Science program at Kent State University, specializing in medical librarianship, demonstrating my commitment to advancing my expertise in the field. My diverse experience in academic and medical libraries, coupled with my ongoing education, positions me well for roles that require a blend of academic rigor and clinical support in healthcare information services.
Personal Statement
As a passionate librarian with over a decade of experience in academic and medical libraries, I have dedicated my career to bridging the gap between information resources and healthcare professionals. My journey in library science began with a profound curiosity about the power of information to transform healthcare outcomes. This curiosity led me to pursue degrees in Library and Information Science and specialize in medical librarianship.
Throughout my career, I have focused on developing innovative strategies to enhance information access and utilization in clinical settings. My experience ranges from classifying medical subjects across thousands of electronic journals to conducting tailored educational sessions for healthcare professionals. I have consistently strived to align resource management with the evolving needs of users in fast-paced clinical environments.
My research interests center on improving health literacy, optimizing evidence-based medicine databases, and enhancing library information services. These areas of focus stem from my firsthand observations of the challenges healthcare professionals face in accessing and applying current medical information. I am particularly passionate about exploring how librarians can become integral members of clinical teams, contributing directly to patient care and clinical decision-making.
Currently, I am pursuing an ALA-accredited Master's in Library and Information Science at Kent State University, specializing in medical librarianship. This academic pursuit reflects my commitment to continuous learning and my desire to stay at the forefront of developments in health sciences librarianship.
As I look to the future, I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the University of New Mexico's Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center. I am eager to apply my expertise in resource management, user education, and clinical support to enhance the library's role in advancing health equity and empowering evidence-based healthcare in New Mexico.
