Biography

Dr. Yarrington is an Associate Professor and Division Chief of Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. With a background in biology, religion, and ethics, Dr. Yarrington scientific expertise with a deep understanding of human experience in her approach to maternal healthcare. She earned her M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine, completing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Boston Medical Center and a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Before joining the University of New Mexico in 2023, Dr. Yarrington held academic and leadership roles at Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine. Her clinical leadership includes serving as Associate Director for Inpatient Obstetrics and Medical Director of Labor and Delivery at Boston Medical Center, where she focused on improving maternal health outcomes, particularly for marginalized populations.
Dr. Yarrington’s research focuses on maternal health, health equity, and innovative care models, with particular attention to hypertensive disorders during pregnancy and remote blood pressure monitoring to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality. She has received multiple awards for her contributions, including the Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award. As a mentor, Dr. Yarrington has guided students and residents across various disciplines and is deeply committed to education and curriculum development.
An active member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine, Dr. Yarrington is involved in health policy, research, and initiatives to improve maternal healthcare, particularly for Black and Latina women. Through her work, she strives to improve maternal health outcomes and address health disparities.
