The New Mexico Department of Health has designated cancer as a reportable disease in New Mexico (New Mexico Administrative Code: Title 7; Chapter 4; Part 3 ). The New Mexico Tumor Registry is the agency designated to conduct public health surveillance for cancer in New Mexico.
The Health Insurance and Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) allows for confidential records to be disclosed for the purposes of public health surveillance (HIPAA § 164.512).
