New Hospital Tower Phase II Construction Closures

Last October, we announced the NM State Board of Finance approved Phase II of the New Hospital Tower (NHT) Project. We are now ready to start construction on this Phase! This is a very exciting step forward in our journey toward creating the extra space we need to better serve our patients and community. As we begin this construction, we want to make you aware of a few traffic changes and road closures that will affect access and routes to the main hospital.

NHT Phase II includes construction of the new Patient Parking Structure and various supportive logistical structures. This work is scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 25. Here’s what you need to know (please see attached map):

Road Closures – Effective Monday, Jan. 25
  • Yale Blvd. between Lomas and Camino de Salud will be closed.
  • The outer westbound lane on Lomas Blvd. between the UNMH ER entrance and south Yale Blvd. will be closed.

Alternate Vehicle Access – Effective Monday, Jan. 25
  • North Yale Blvd. between Tucker and Camino de Salud will reopen for use (yellow line route).
  • Access to UNMH/BBRP north entrance (including the patient parking structure) will now be available via north Yale and the newly realigned road just south of the Innovation, Discovery and Training Complex (IDTC)—yellow line route.
  • The West Parking Garage entrance remains the same and can be accessed using the blue route through North Yale and the new road south of IDTC (yellow line route).
  • M Lot parking is accessible through the blue line route on Camino de Salud.

Hospital/North Campus Lomas Access Points to Main Campus
·        Please note, the traffic and pedestrian access point at Lomas and Yale is closed until further notice.
·        Lomas/University and Lomas/Stanford access points and crosswalks remain open (orange stars).

*UNMH building access and screening points remain the same.

Throughout all phases of construction work, steps will be taken to help mitigate potential traffic and any access issues in the affected area(s). Notifications will be sent out periodically to inform you of additional changes, utility outages, parking lot and/or road closures. Please plan extra time in your commute and be aware of workers while in the area. Thank you for your patience during this time!
