Large-Scale Vaccination Event Planned for Rio Rancho Events Center
UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center is partnering with the New Mexico Department of Health, Sandoval County and the city of Rio Rancho to provide vaccinations for approximately 2,000 people this Friday at the Rio Rancho Events Center.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is limited to those who have registered for the vaccine via the state’s registration system, and there is no walk-up service or standby. SRMC employees are helping to plan for and staff the vaccination event.
“We are excited to continue to be part of the effort to vaccinate members of our community," said UNM SRMC President and CEO Jamie Silva-Steele, MBA, RN. "Partnering on this mass vaccination strategy with the City of Rio Rancho, the Rio Rancho Events Center, the New Mexico Department of Health and Sandoval County allows us to work together to put our community first, and goes right to the heart of why we exist. We are proud to be part of this event."

A follow-up vaccination effort to provide booster shots is planned in three weeks.
Launching the vaccination site is a major step forward for the community, said Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull. “Many hours of hard work have gone into establishing a vaccination site at the Rio Rancho Events Center, and we couldn’t be happier to partner with all the organizations involved,” he said.
People will receive vaccinations pursuant to the New Mexico Department of Health’s current priority and notification system. All New Mexicans are strongly encouraged to register with the state by visiting www.vaccineNM.org
The city will cover venue expenses for Friday’s event and then submit them for reimbursement through the federal government and FEMA. Based on vaccine availability and distribution via federal and state governments, the city and UNM SRMC hope to schedule additional large-scale vaccination events for community members in the near future.
