The University of New Mexico will host a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, September 8, to celebrate its newly opened family practice clinic in Rio Rancho.
The 3,000-square-foot clinic, located 1790 Grande Blvd. SE, will provide primary care services for patients from throughout the region, including rural and tribal communities.
“At the UNM Health Sciences Center we have long had a commitment to improving the health and well-being of New Mexico’s citizens,” says Douglas Ziedonis, MD, MPH, executive vice president, UNM Health Sciences, and chief executive officer for the UNM Health System.
The Grande Family Clinic, operated by the UNM Medical Group, Inc., is part of the UNM Health System, which includes UNM Hospital, UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center and clinics throughout the state. When needed, clinic patients will have access to some 152 specialty areas, according to according to Michael Richards, MD, MPA, UNM’s senior vice chancellor for Clinical Affairs.
Altogether, the Health System serves more than 900,000 outpatient visits a year and, with inpatient care provided at UNMH and SRMC in Rio Rancho.
“Sandoval County is unique,” Richards says. “Many of our patients are from rural areas and must travel miles for health care, while others live in an urban setting. We know the clinic will help to meet the diverse health needs off people throughout this area.”
“Our mission is to expand clinics and telemedicine throughout the state to positively impact populations that need it the most,” Ziedonis says. “We are proud to be able to increase access to medical services and improve the health of residents in the area.”
