Tigges Receives International Honor
Beth B. Tigges, PhD, RN, FAAN, Regents' professor in The University of New Mexico College of Nursing, was awarded a Fellowship Ad Eundem by the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI) University of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The Fellowship is awarded to candidates in recognition of outstanding work and exceptional leadership in the profession of nursing and/or midwifery. Fellows were welcomed from South Africa, the Kingdom of Bahrain, Peru, Netherlands, Germany, Scotland, Italy, Canada, the U.S, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Ireland.
“It is an honor to join a number of longtime colleagues from around the world as an RCSI Fellow and support RCSI’s initiatives to advance global nursing, midwifery and health care,” Tigges says.
In addition to teaching in the College’s PhD program, Tigges is a past president of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) and was on the Sigma Board for more than 10 years. She has given more than 20 presentations around the world about the application of team science research to leadership in nursing.
Tigges has been funded as a co-investigator or principal investigator on multiple National Institutes of Health (NIH) initiatives, including the U.S. National Children's Study. She serves as the director of evaluation for four NIH grants and is the immediate past co-chair of Program Evaluators' Group for the U.S. Clinical and Translational Science Consortium.
She is also a co-investigator on the National Institute of General Medical Sciences-funded project “Effectiveness of Innovative Research Mentor Interventions Among Underrepresented Minority Faculty in the Southwest.”
The Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences is home to Ireland's largest medical school and schools of pharmacy and biomolecular sciences, physiotherapy, nursing & midwifery, postgraduate studies and the RCSI Graduate School of Healthcare Management. Founded in 1974, the RCSI School of Nursing & Midwifery is the largest provider of postgraduate nursing education in Ireland.
