UNM College of Nursing Ranked Among Nation’s Best Nursing Schools

Master of Science and Doctor of Nursing Practice Programs Highlighted by U.S. News & World Report

The University of New Mexico College of Nursing’s master of science in nursing and doctor of nursing practice are again ranked among the best nursing programs in the nation and the top in New Mexico, according to the latest ranking from U.S. News & World Reports 2023 edition of America’s Best Graduate Schools.

UNM’s master of science in nursing program is ranked 61st in the nation and fourth in the Mountain West. The doctor of nursing practice program is ranked 80th nationally and fifth in the Mountain West. Both programs earned the top spot in the state of New Mexico.

“Our graduate nursing programs are preparing nurses to serve our communities and our state as researchers and advanced health care practitioners,” said Christine E. Kasper, PhD, RN, dean of the College of Nursing. “We are proud to provide a graduate nursing education that consistently ranks among the best in the nation.”

Multiple master’s programs in the UNM College of Nursing are nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report. The nurse-midwifery program currently ranks 11th in the nation, while the online master of science programs in nursing administration and nursing education rank 20th in the nation’s best online programs, according to U.S. News & World Report.

UNM’s bachelor of science in nursing is also recognized as the 43rd best in the nation, placing it in the top 6% of all BSN programs.

The College has a long record of meeting the health care needs of New Mexico’s rural and vulnerable populations, with a focus on addressing chronic illness, women and children’s health and health policy.

Each year, U.S. News & World Report ranks professional school programs in business, education, engineering, law, medicine and nursing. The rankings in these areas are based on expert opinions about program excellence, as well as statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school's faculty, research and students.
