New research and innovations at the Center of Excellence for Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation (COE) will be highlighted at The University of New Mexico Orthopaedic Technology and Facility Showcase, set for Thursday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the UNM Health Sciences Rio Rancho campus.
The day-long event will feature presentations on orthopaedics-focused technology and a round-table discussion of how design thinking tools can help translate ideas and research into solutions for clinical practice. There will also be a tour of the facility, which includes clinical spaces, a research laboratory and a physical therapy unit.
Douglas Ziedonis, MD, MPH, executive vice president for Health Sciences and CEO of the UNM Health System, will deliver the keynote presentation.
Additional speakers include Jamie Silva-Steele, RN, MBA, president and CEO of UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center; Elizabeth Kuuttila, CEO and chief economic development officer for UNM Rainforest Innovations; Christina Salas, PhD, associate professor in the UNM Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation; Dustin Richter, MD, assistant professor of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation and COE administrator Hilary Hoekenga, MBA, MHA.
