Those looking to apply to a nursing program will find that The University of New Mexico College of Nursing has just been ranked in the top 15% of undergraduate nursing programs in the country by US News & World Report, landing at 67th out of 656 schools. Since the undergraduate rankings began, the College has consistently ranked among the top in the nation.
The College of Nursing seeks to improve health care for the rural and underserved and is the only Carnegie R1 university in New Mexico.
Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Education, Mindy Tinkle, PhD, RN, says, “these positive results will bring in more students to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, resulting in more BSN - prepared nurses; which will help increase the number of nurses ready for the workforce and combat the state and national nursing shortage.”
The College has so much to offer its students. Not just during their time as an undergraduate, but beyond. Many of our influential faculty were once students here and were so impacted by their experience that they brought their knowledge and skills back to enrich the program that much more.
The College of Nursing provides well-rounded curriculum for its students, including impactful sessions in a state-of-the-art simulation center and skills lab that give students safe, structured, hands-on patient experiences with high-fidelity manikins and faculty guidance. Program experiences like this enhance a student’s exposure to a variety of clinical encounters and is a part of why the BSN program ranks so highly.
College of Nursing Interim Dean Carolyn Montoya, PhD, RN, PNP-PC, says, “the College has so much to offer its students. Not just during their time as an undergraduate, but beyond. Many of our influential faculty were once students here and were so impacted by their experience that they brought their knowledge and skills back to enrich the program that much more.” She continues, “this is a special place to be. Here you will find a place you belong, because we are truly a community and we strive to support each other.”
The College of Nursing is in the midst of the Fall 2023 semester across all of its campuses which includes UNM Health Sciences in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho along with branches in Gallup, Taos, and Valencia County, and partners at Central New Mexico Community College, San Juan College and Santa Fe Community College.
