The University of New Mexico Hospital and UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center – A Campus of UNM Hospital (SRMC) are among the top hospitals in the nation for certain clinical care, according to new ratings released by U.S. News & World Report, a multifaceted media company dedicated to helping consumers, business leaders, and policy officials make important decisions about products and health care.

UNM Hospital Ratings

UNM Hospital has been rated as a high performing hospital for care in the following areas:

  • Colon Cancer Surgery
  • Surgery
  • Heart Attack
  • Heart Failure
  • Leukemia, Lymphoma, & Myeloma
  • Stroke

Additionally, UNM Hospital has been awarded a medallion designating it as a “Best Regional Hospital for Equitable Access.”

“I am extremely proud of our teams who are providing high quality and compassionate care to our patients every day. These ratings demonstrate our strong commitment to safety, quality, and improving health equity. New Mexicans can be confident that when they come to our hospital for care, they will be cared for by teams of people who have their highest level of safety in mind.”

SRMC Ratings

Additionally, U.S. News & World Report rated SRMC as a high performing hospital in diabetes care. This designation is particularly important considering 12.3 percent of our state’s population has a diabetes diagnosis, with an additional 53,000 New Mexicans unaware they have diabetes, according to a 2023 report released by the American Diabetes Association.

“Many of our patients at SRMC come from rural and Tribal areas of the state, where diabetes and diseases linked to diabetes are prevalent. I’m proud of our teams who are providing this care and working to make Sandoval County and surrounding areas healthier. We have an important mission to improve access to care and equity in health outcomes and ratings like these prove that we are working to achieve that goal every day.”

Jamie Silva-Steele, RN, BSN, MBA, FACHE, President, UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center
