Amy Levi Appointed Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

Will Oversee HSC Faculty and Educational Development

Amy Levi, PhD, CNM, WHNP, will assume the role of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center.

Levi, the Leah L. Albers Endowed Professor of Midwifery in the UNM College of Nursing, will oversee career development, faculty promotions, interprofessional education, Native American recruitment into health professions and other education-related matters. She replaces Leslie Morrison, MD, who retired earlier this year.

"Dr. Levi brings a wealth of valuable experience to her new role," said Executive Vice Chancellor Richard S. Larson, MD, PhD. "I know she will make an invaluable contribution in advancing the Health Sciences Center's faculty development and education priorities."

Levi said she is eager to assume her new position. "I'm honored and excited to be part of the HSC leadership team," she said. "I believe that in educating health care providers we make an invaluable contribution to the well-being of all New Mexicans."

Levi held a variety of clinical and administrative positions in nurse-midwifery practices in Philadelphia, Burlington, Vt., and at the University of California, San Francisco. She also served as a lecturer, clinical instructor and adjunct professor in nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Vermont, the University of Rhode Island and UCSF. She served as a clinical professor at the UCSF School of Medicine from 2005 to 2012.

She has occupied a variety of roles since joining UNM's College of Nursing faculty in July 2012, serving as interim chair of the practice team and interim associate executive dean. She has been the HSC's director of Interprofessional Education since July 2016.

Levi has a BA in nutrition from Hampshire College, an AS in nursing from the State University of New York, a BSN in nursing from Widener University and a nurse practitioner certificate, MSN and PhD in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania.
