Local High School Students Welcome at University of New Mexico Health Careers Academy Presentations

Looking for something in Sandoval County for the kids once school is out?

Sandoval County high school students interested in science and medicine are eligible to attend some of the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Health Careers Academy presentations being held throughout June at the UNM Health Sciences Rio Rancho Campus.

This is the first year that an interactive summer Health Careers Academy has been held at the Rio Rancho campus.

"We worked with the Rio Rancho Public School system to customize a program for Sandoval County students," Laura Burton, PhD, program manager for the UNM Health Sciences Rio Rancho Campus says. The interactive nature of many of the presentations meant the full academy curriculum was capped at 28 people with students wining admission through a lottery.

But an auditorium setting will allow seating for up to 65 students, according to Burton.

"We know that there is a great deal of interest from community students and we would like to welcome them to these free presentations," she says.

Open events are:

4-Jun 10:00-11:30 College Success and Wellness

6-Jun 10:00-11:30 The Trades in Healthcare

11-Jun 10:00 - 12:00 Health Sciences Student Panel (med students, nursing, and more)

13-Jun 10:00-11:30 Health Professionals Panel
