UNM Gives Campaign kicks off with a game of L-O-B-O

The University of New Mexico's Pit has hosted so many memorable basketball moments.

From Lorenzo Charles' buzzer-beating dunk that gave North Carolina State the 1983 National Championship in an upset over No. 1-ranked University of Houston to UNM knocking off top-rated Arizona in 1988.

Wednesday's game of "L-O-B-O" was not even close to one of those classics. The participants didn't show much athletic skill on the hardwood, but it was all for a good cause, as the UNM Gives Campaign kicked off with the contest officiated by Paul B. Roth, MD, MS, Chancellor of Health Sciences, and UNM President Garnett S. Stokes in referee uniforms.

The annual UNM Gives Campaign runs through Oct. 31 and provides faculty and staff to give back to our community through monetary donations and volunteering. Faculty and staff can donate to the United Way of Central New Mexico - which serves those in need in Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance and Valencia counties - or the UNM Foundation.

Last year's event raised more than $950,000.
