UNM Health Sciences Center names new public information officer

ALBUQUERQUE - The UNM Health Sciences Center (HSC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Alex Sanchez as its new public information officer. Sanchez has served as the deputy superintendent of the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department for the past year.

"Alex has a wealth of news media experience, having served as not only a reporter in New Mexico but as public information officer at two state agencies," said Paul B. Roth, MD, MS, Chancellor for Health Sciences. "We have wonderful stories to tell about the life-changing work we do at the HSC, and Alex will play a key role in sharing those stories with the public."

Sanchez is assuming PIO duties from Billy Sparks, who recently retired as the HSC's executive director of Communications and Marketing after 10 years. She has previously served as PIO - and later as deputy secretary of administration - for the New Mexico Corrections Department.

Sanchez will start her new job on November 20.
