Youth engagement has been identified as a crucial element in promoting adolescent health programs. Involving young people in the design, implementation, and evaluation of these programs ensures that they are more relevant, effective, and responsive to the needs of adolescents. When youth are actively engaged, they are more likely to take ownership of their health, advocate for themselves and their peers, and contribute to creating healthier communities. This participatory approach not only empowers young people but also enhances the overall impact and sustainability of health initiatives targeting adolescents.
The youth programs listed below illustrate how the UNM HSC COPH CPR (University of New Mexico, Health Sciences Center, College of Population Health, Center for Participatory Research) is engaging the youth of New Mexico. These initiatives aim to harness the energy, creativity, and unique perspectives of young people to address local challenges and create positive change in their communities. Through these programs, the Center, empowers young people to take an active role in shaping their environments, promoting health, and contributing to the well-being of their peers and the broader community.
