    Have Some Pi

    March 14, 2015 - Roy W. Mollenkamp

The Sponsored Projects Office celebrated the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter today.  Yes, you read that correctly.

Pi day is March 14 (3.14), and is an internationally recognized day celebrating the mathematical concept of "Pi" which is a non-repeating, non-terminating decimal representing the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

Given the mathematical nature of many of the grants that come through our office, the Sponsored Projects Office decided to use this as an opportunity to get to know the departments with whom we work so closely.  Members of many different departments were invited to come down to our offices at 1650 University and partake in pie of different types.  We even held a competition to see who could bake the best pie -- winners for each category were decided and given awards as recognition.  Our own Kayla Hammond took the top prize for a sweet potato pie that featured the "Pi" symbol encrusted on the top.  Fun was had by all, and given the resounding success of this event, we may even see a repeat next year, so mark your calendars.
