Biography

Dr. Greene, as she likes to be called, has been practicing as a Neurointensivist, Vascular Neurologist and Neurologist for 21 years. She grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona and attended undergraduate and medical school at the University of Arizona in Tucson. In the middle of medical school she was awarded a Howard Hughes Research Fellowship where she spent a year doing research in neurosurgery at the University of Washington. She then moved on to residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (Washington University in St. Louis). A fellowship in neurocritical care followed at Johns Hopkins University. After practicing at Johns Hopkins Howard County Hospital for a few years, she moved to Novant Health’s Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC where she ultimately became Chief of Neurology of that hospital. Given that her family is all from Ohio, when the opportunity to start a neurocritical care unit and program was presented to her- she took it. She became the founding medical director of the NCCU for The Ohio State University Medical Center and founding program director for the fellowship. While at Ohio State she won awards for compassionate patient care and for being a champion of advanced practice providers. She was chosen at a team member for the OSU Ethics committee and consulting group. She sat on the medical advisory board for Lifeline of Ohio for eight years. She also served as Longitudinal Group Facilitator for the medical students as well as a mentor for numerous medical students, residents and fellows. As program director of the neurocritical care fellowship she graduated many successful neurointensivists who are now leaders and directors in ICUs at major academic medical centers all over the country and two internationally.

In 2019, Dr. Greene made the move to University of New Mexico to join her husband who is also in the department. She has started a new fellowship in the neurosciences ICU at UNMH and is the neurosciences education director for the Adult Critical Care Center. Her passion at UNM is medical education and she is a Block Co-Chair of Doctoring classes for the second-year medical students that teaches clinical skills. She is also curriculum team member and educator for the Neuroscience Block. Her mentoring skills are being used as a Learning Community Mentor for the medical students. She is passionate about growing future physicians, Neurologists and Neurointensivists.

Dr. Greene is nationally known having served as the chair of Women in Neurocritical Care Section of the Neurocritical Care Society (NCS) for three years. She has served in other leadership roles in the NCS and the American Academy of Neurology. She been an invited speaker nationally and internationally on topics in neurocritical care and stroke in women. She has published over sixty articles, book chapters and abstracts. In 2017 she was awarded high the designation of Fellow of the Neurocritical Care Society.

Dr. Greene is passionate about empathetic care in ICUs to the patients and their family members. She will work tirelessly for the sickest neurology and neurosurgical patients and their families. She is happy to be back in the Southwest and has brought along her four young adult children with three of them studying as new Lobos at the University of New Mexico.
