Our office is dedicated to providing initiatives for faculty and learners that improve practice efficiency, enhance a culture of compassion, and promote personal resiliency. We follow this national wellness model to promote joy in practice and to reduce moral distress.
We focus on improving professional well-being for all learners in the School of Medicine, including medical students, HPP students, BSGP students, and residents, and SOM faculty by:
AMA has recognized the UNM School of Medicine's ongoing commitment to improving the well-being of its faculty, staff, and learners with a Joy in Medicine Bronze Recognition award. The Office of Professional Well-being works with UNM School of Medicine leadership to put processes and structures in place to improve workforce well-being and will continue to measure progress toward that goal.
The UNM School of Medicine is an official supporter of the Charter on Physician Well-being and Renewal Medicine (CHARM), a group of leading medical centers and organizations that includes the AMA. The Charter helps health systems, organizations and individuals advance and promote physician well-being.
The UNM School of Medicine is a sponsor of the National Academy of Medicine Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience, a network of more than 200 organizations committed to reversing trends in clinician burnout.
To educate, serve, and advocate for best practices to support resilience and well-being for UNM SOM faculty and learners.
Create an institutional culture in which healthcare professionals and learners do not have to sacrifice their own well-being to serve others.
