Dermatopathology

Overview

The dermatopathology service is committed to providing patients and clinicians with the highest level of service and diagnostic accuracy. The service is a collaboration between Pathology Associates of Albuquerque and UNM, located at TriCore Reference Laboratories. Our team of 2 board-certified dermatopathologists reviews both inpatient and outpatient skin biopsies as well as hair and nail specimens. The annual volume is approximately 18,000 specimens, which includes 1500 second opinion consultations from dermatologists and community pathologists. The service holds weekly teaching conferences for dermatology and pathology residents, and residents are invited to participate in a month-long rotation with our team. The dermatopathologists collaborate closely with one another, sharing their expertise and insights during daily consensus conference. They also work closely with other disciplines, including surgical pathology, hematopathology and molecular pathology to ensure the most comprehensive diagnostic interpretation of cases.
