Why UNM is My Choice for Residency: Balloons, tacos, great people, landscape, culture. All good reasons to choose UNM. Where else can you get done with an overnight shift and watch hot air balloons taking off as the sun rises over the mountains? Perhaps more importantly, if you choose UNM you will become part of a family that really cares about its residents. You will see so many things from all over the southwest, and have both the autonomy and support you need to become a great pediatrician.
Favorite Things About UNM: I love our residents. They are some of the best possible people to work with, and it makes it a blast to be here. We also have some amazing sub-specialists who are the smartest in the world, and I have learned so much from them. We also see some of the craziest stuff since we're the primary academic children's hospital for the whole state.
Favorite Things About New Mexico: I love so many things. New Mexico has excellent food and coffee (check out Castle Coffee, or Duran's Central Pharmacy). There are a lot of fun events in the city, and the state is a beautiful place to explore. I've been to more national parks in the past 3 years then the rest of my life combined.
