Why UNM is My Choice for Residency: When I started comparing residency programs, I wanted to go somewhere very different from my home, the Pacific Northwest, and experience a new culture. My husband and I both wanted to move somewhere with plenty of sunshine. I came to UNM as a visiting Sub-I and after a few short weeks, I felt like a member of the team. The residents helped me feel included and valued. The attending physicians were approachable and supportive. I also fell in love with the cultural diversity of the region and the opportunity to work in an underserved area. Our pediatric residency program is unique in that it strongly promotes advocacy work within the curriculum. I found this a testament to the mission of the program and the type of residents that it attracts – compassionate, motivated, and inspired individuals. Residency thus far has been a positive journey and I am so thankful to have been chosen to join this amazing team of pediatricians!
Favorite Things About UNM: We get lots of autonomy. It is amazing to see how much we grow in independence by the final year. Also, we have the best people! I feel at home here in NM. Couldn't have asked for a better, more challenging and welcoming residency program.
Favorite Things About New Mexico: Hiking, mountain biking, walking down Central Ave, visiting little towns and staying at Airbnbs, watching the sunsets
