Enhancing Wellness By Honoring Our Humanity with Professor Deleso Alford, JD., LL.M.

The HSC Office for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, in partnership with the UNM Division for Equity & Inclusion and the UNM School of Law, are proud to welcome UNM's Spring 2019 Distinguished Diversity Scholar, Professor Deleso Alford, JD., LL.M.

UNM HSC is honored to continue our partnership with Professor Alford. We would like to invite everyone to join us as she presents the UNM Distinguished Diversity Scholar luncheon talk: Enhancing Wellness By Honoring Our Humanity on Friday, April 26.

Deleso Alford is a Shreveport, Louisiana native and Visiting Professor of Law at Southern University Law Center and Adjunct Faculty and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Central Florida. Professor Alford is doing ground-breaking work bridging legal and medical education by telling stories-what she refers to as "HER stories"-the unique and particularized lived experiences of black women intersecting with health care and research. She has moved her scholarship into classrooms, benefiting both law and medical students with her racially inflected lessons.

Professor Alford's forthcoming book, Tuskegee's Forgotten Women: The Untold Side of the U.S. Public Health Services Syphilis Study, sheds light on how women were directly involved in and/or impacted by the U.S. Public Health Services Syphilis Study. This book offers an acknowledgment of the importance of women's voices, and especially black women's voices, in history.
