New Mexican tribal communities – 19 Pueblos, 3 Apache tribes and Navajo Nation – are sovereign nations characterized by language, culture, rigor and understanding of health that dates farther back then many of today’s public health strategies. Tribal communities are sustaining and revitalizing culture, language, and strengthening community to address health disparities. The Indigenous Health and Wellness Unit uplifts what is happening within Indigenous communities to promote wellbeing rooted in tradition and resilience.
